One of the most important parts of any kitchen design is the countertop. It’s where the work happens. It’s where you prepare delicious dinners for your family and friends… and the occasional midnight snack.
Beyond being functional, the counter is a major style element that can ultimately tie the room together, or unravel it completely. The family naturally converges on the kitchen. That’s why it’s important to make sure you love the way it looks.
It’s no wonder that choosing a countertop can be one of the more difficult decisions in any design process. Cornerstone Kitchens & Design carries a range of countertop styles to catch the eye and complete your kitchen.
Quartz is easily the most popular choice for kitchen countertops. It’s more durable than stone, but also requires less maintenance. The quartz granules are ground up and poured with an epoxy to create an exact blend of colour and pattern to fit any style.
Granite is also popular choice. The sturdy stone surface is heat resistant and doesn’t scratch, although corners and edges have been known to chip. It features a wavy pattern that works well with a variety of styles. Granite is porous and requires periodic resealing, which is a relatively simple to do.
For those who don’t like the feel of real stone, there’s Corian. The acrylic composite is stain resistant, warm to the touch and offers many of the same benefits of Quartz. Having said that, it’s not stone. So you’ll want to avoid leaving hot pots on the counter.
At the other end of the spectrum is Soapstone. This solid rock countertop is incredibly dense and unaffected by heat. Soapstone offers a beautiful and timeless look that can fit both traditional and modern styles. Apart from occasional wiping, the countertops require no extra care.
